Freedom from Sexual Confusion
But at the beginning of creation, GOD ‘made them male and female.' For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what GOD has joined together, let man not separate.” Mark 10:6-9 NIV
If you are a person who is heterosexual, bi-sexual, homosexual etc. I would like to take a moment and share with you what I have experienced in my lifetime. Then I would like to share with you what GOD in CHRIST JESUS NAME has to say about how we should live.
At the age of seven my life was turned upside down by an uncle who molested me. My seven-year old mind fluttered wildly in confusion. Those wild thoughts of confusion left me with questions like “ What just happened to me? Should I stay here in bed or run to my mom? Should I cry or be quite? I didn’t know the answers to any of my questions but I did know one thing: something terrible had been done to me, something shameful and wrong-something I felt I should never tell anyone about. After this one night, the only male I allowed myself to be close to was my brother.
In years to come, as I kept my deep dark painful secret within me, I found myself making some bad choices. I lived a gay lifestyle for several years. Then it was a free for all when I started featuring topless with my sister around the US. Beautiful men and women were everywhere. Back then, the parties, beautiful people and sex was a blast.
Now here’s the question-was it a blast or a stronghold in my life from all the bad choices I chose to make. See confusion leads to anger then anger leads to sin. Yes, sin can be pleasurable for a time but really, lets get honest with one another-deep down inside your heart, how joyful are you?
Dr. Neil T. Anderson explains in his one book “Victory over the Darkness” about winning the battle for your mind. He talks about GOD’S way verses man’s way. He writes about” beliefs and attitudes being formed in our minds from traumatic experiences such as the death of a parent, a divorce in the home, or mental, physical or sexual abuse. Unlike prevailing experiences that are assimilated into our minds over time, these traumatic experiences are BURNED into our minds because of their intensity; and they will leave lasting impressions.
He writes how Apostle Paul said “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2, NIV). The point is we are are conformed to this world, albeit differently, and we still can be. Even as Christians we can still listen to the wrong music, watch the wrong programs, have the wrong friends and think the wrong thoughts. We will still be TEMPTED to live our lives independently of GOD because we are living in a fallen world. He goes on to write that temptation always comes by a way of thought, and the key to resisting temptation is to take that initial thought captive to the obedience of CHRIST.”
He writes “Scripture teaches how GOD has provided a way of escape from every temptation. For example, a man or woman struggling with lust sees a pornographic picture. He has the opportunity to respond by thinking, my relationship with sin has ended. I don’t have to give in to this. I choose right now to take this thought to the obedience of CHRIST. I’m not going to look at it and I’m not going to think about it. He or she stops looking at the picture and gets rid of the magazine or leaves the place of temptation. If he or she hesitates at the threshold, stares at the picture and begins to fantasize about it, he or she will trigger an emotional landslide, producing a physical response that will be difficult to stop. He or she must capture the initial tempting thought or it will probably capture them.”
He then goes on to write about Actions, Habits and Strongholds. A stronghold is a mental habit pattern. It is memory traces BURNED into our minds over time or by the intensity of traumatic experiences. Hostility is a stronghold. Homosexuality is a stronghold.” Sexual immorality is a stronghold.“In GOD’S eyes there is no such thing as a homosexual. HE created us male and female. However, homosexual thoughts, feelings and behavior can usually be traced to past negative experiences or tempting thoughts. Such experiences precipitate sexual feelings, fantasies and disorientations, causing some to believe a LIE about their sexual identity.”
He then writes “If Satan can get you to believe a lie, you can lose some element of control in your life. Suppose I was devious and persuaded you to believe a lie. Would believing that lie have some effect on your life? Suppose I started a rumor that your spouse was unfaithful; and you HEARD it. Would believing that lie effect how you felt about your husband and how you related to him? Therefore, if you fail to take every thought captive to the OBEDIENCE of CHRIST, you may be allowing Satan to influence your life in a negative direction. Because Satan’s primary weapon is the lie, your defense against him is TRUTH. Dealing with Satan is not a power encounter, it is a TRUTH encounter. When you expose Satan’s lie with GOD’S TRUTH, his power is broken. That is why JESUS said “You shall know THE TRUTH and THE TRUTH shall set you free” (John 8:32). That is why HE prayed, “ My prayer is not that YOU take them out of the world but that YOU keep them from the evil one. Sanctify them by THE TRUTH; YOUR WORD is TRUTH. Satan’s lie cannot withstand the TRUTH any more than the darkness of night can withstand the light of THE rising sun. We are not called to dispel the darkness; we are called to turn to on THE LIGHT. Deceiving spirits are like cockroaches. They only come out at night, and when you turn on THE LIGHT, they head for the shadows.”
I know from past experience the lies of Satan. I spent twenty-five years living out of control. I never knew there was a much more LOVING PEACEFUL way of living. Of course that is until GOD got ahold of me in CHRIST JESUS NAME. At the age of 36, when I was broken GOD had put a consuming passion in my heart by HIS HOLY SPIRIT. I wanted to know everything about HIM and HIS SON JESUS. I wanted to know what it was to live GODS way instead of Cheryl’s way. I now know THE TRUTH and HE has set me free from the sexual immoral life I once lived. Remember, GOD does not hate heterosexual people, HE does not hate bi-sexual people, HE does not hate homosexual people, HE hates the sin that is affecting your lives.
