How did you become an impersonator for Stevie Nicks?
I grew up in Arizona. As I grew older many people would stop to say how much I looked like Stevie. A woman I worked with shared how popular look-a-like shows were in Arizona and they paid top dollar for great entertainment. I entered a contest and placed third in it. After that one performance, my career soared as an impersonator. (back to top)
How did you meet Stevie Nicks family?
My back-up singer had invited me to a Power Station concert. She had some of the guys from the local radio station take us. While my friend was off doing her thing, one of the guys went to get lunch for everyone. I sat down in the swivel chair of the motorhome. Stevie’s song Dreams came on the radio. I began belting out the words. About half way through the song I heard loud voices and commotion going on outside. Still singing I walked over to the window. A large crowd had gathered around a metal fence outside where the RV was parked backstage. They were pointing in my direction. Turning the music down, I heard someone yell, “See! There she is!” Another voice hollered, “Stevie Nicks is in that motorhome!”
Frozen, I watched how the crowd grew rowdier and began to push on the metal fence. When the fence began to bend I gasped and turned around, bolting to the bathroom. I locked the door and leaned my head against it. In my mind I pictured the crowd bursting through the fence and overtaking the RV. Fear swelled up in my chest like a balloon. Sinking down to the ground I hugged my knees and listened. A half hour later I heard the door to the motorhome open. Holding my breath I waited.
Cheryl?” I heard a man’s voice call out and there was a knock on the bathroom door. “ It’s okay to come out.” Unlocking and opening the door I saw Robert’s welcoming face smiling at me. “Oh. I’m so glad you’re back.” My whole body relaxed and I inhaled the fresh air through my nose. “It was getting claustrophobic in there but I was too scared to come out.”
“ A security guard to us about the crazy crowd trying to charge the RV. But it’s all under control now.” Looking past Robert who worked for the radio station, I saw a man and woman standing toward the front of the vehicle. I looked back at Robert with questions in my eyes. “Oh, hey,” Robert threw his hands together. “I want you to meet some people. This is Marylou and Gene Nicks. Stevie’s aunt and uncle.”
Heat instantly rose to my face. “Hi.” “They actually own this whole concert facility with Stevie Nicks’ father, Jess Nicks,” Robert added. Marylou extended her hand. “It’s really nice to meet you. We’ve heard a lot about you.” Her words were warm as her eyes. “You sure do look like my niece.” She chuckled and turned to her husband, “Doesn’t she?” Gene nodded. From that day, I became dear friends with Gene and Marylou Nicks. If you read Through Fire and Water you will see how I became friends with the rest of the family. (back to top)
What was it like spending four years and two months in prison?
t was the hardest thing I ever had to do and the greatest thing that ever happened to me. It was a place where I would have to deal with things in my life that I never dealt with before. It was also a place I knew I belonged for all the wrong things I did. I was tired and broken when I first went into prison. One night in my prison cell, I cried out to GOD and asked HIM to let me die. HE heard my cry and changed my life forever. (back to top)
What caused you to become a follower of CHRIST?
It was when GOD spoke to me in my prison cell when I asked HIM to let me die. If you read Through Fire and Water you will see THE POWERFUL VISION HE gave me in prison and how HE changed my life through JESUS CHRIST. (back to top)
